Soldier of Fortune (SOF), officially titled The Journal of Professional Adventurers, is an American web magazine that was established in 1975 by Robert K. Brown, a former Special Forces member who served in Vietnam. After retiring, Brown began publishing a small magazine that shared information about mercenary opportunities in Oman, which was facing a coup and a communist insurgency. This initial circular quickly transformed into a glossy, large-format magazine. From 1975 to 2016, it was a monthly publication in the U.S., covering a wide range of topics such as conventional warfare, low-intensity warfare, counterinsurgency, and counter-terrorism. The magazine was produced by Omega Group Ltd., based in Boulder, Colorado. On May 2, Susan Katz Keating, an author, editor, and expert, acquired the company from Brown.
