War Graves Digger: Service with an Australian Graves Registration Unit (2010) By Jack Leemon

The story of a small group of World War Two soldiers who had the onerous task of recovering those killed in battle, recording their details and giving them a proper burial in a war graves cemetery.

WW2 war graves unit at Buna, Lae Shaggy Ridge and the 'end-of-war recovery on the railway of death. Describes the recovery method for our dead and how the 'graves' troops handled their onerous task. He also managed the Yokohama war cemetery.

This book is rather unusual in that there are contributions from three members of the one family. Each writer has their own section. The book commences with the personal story of Jack Leemon. A mature aged soldier of the Second World War. His war experiences and experiences after the war are with 'The System's Red Tape' and the physical difficulties due to climate and geography that also faced the men of the 2nd AIF and AMF.

The reader is then treated to the memories of Service Woman, Wife and mother Betsy Leemon. Commencing with her involvement as a driver in Australia during WW2. This is followed by her recollections of her time in Japan as the wife of the Supervisor of a Commonwealth War Cemetery. Betsy recounts events from her perspective and includes her observations of her husband's daily battle's with both the BCOF and the Japan that was emerging from the disaster of the Second World War.

The book is completed by Leemon's eldest daughter, Catherine Morgan. Her contribution is also interesting reading.

One of the book is inscribed by Catherine Morgan
