The Battleship Oregon (1977) By McKinley's Bulldog

The U.S.S. Oregon was built near the turn of the century, one of the first modern battleships. During the Spanish-American war she electrified the world by racing almost fifteen thousand miles in sixty days, a record smashing time, to play a decisive role in the battle at Santiago de Cuba. She later saw service during the Boxer rebellion, and again with the Pacific fleet in World War I. She served as a museum briefly in the state of Oregon, but was brought into service yet again to serve as an ammunition barge in Guam during World War II.

After breaking from her moorings in the midst of a hurricane and drifting almost 500 miles unmanned, she was rescued but was found to be beyond repair. She suffered the ignominious fate of being sold for scrap before appropriations could be had to insure a kinder fate. All that remains are some anchor chain links and a commemorative plaque at the U. S. Naval Base at Yokosuka, Japan.
