Submarines Attacking: Adventures Of Italian Naval Forces (1956) By Admiral Aldo Cocchia

Here, by a sailor who played an extremely active role throughout World War II, is the story of exciting actions in the Italian participation in the war at sea.

Admiral Cocchia's narrative starts early in the war when he was chief of the Italian submarine base at Bordeaux, and from this position he describes encounters with British merchant men, the Italian methods of slipping through the Straits of Gibraltar, the sinking of the cruiser Calypso, and the transformation of Italian submarines into unarmed 'merchantmen' to take supplies to Japan. The next phase deals with the Italian surface craft landings on Crete and is followed by the defence of Tobruk, which culminated in the sinking of the cruiser Coventry and of the destroyers Sikh and Zulu.
