In 1944, Marjorie Pickerill (then Warren) boarded a cargo boat, the 'Themistocles' and sailed for Britain and the European battlefields of World War II.
 
This was to be the start of an incredible adventure, retold 60 years later from letters written by Marjorie to her Mum and Dad back home in South Africa.
 
Relived, in the writing of this special book, the memories of her life as an ambulance driver and maintenance mechanic/nurse/cook/"stooge" are shared with us all and held in our own hearts and memories forever.
 
Today, Marjorie lives in a retirement village in South Africa among many special friends and relations.
 
She wrote this book at home, working at her computer with all the original letters and photos as her reference.
