Retreat From Kokoda (1958) By Raymond Paull

In 1942, the Japanese had swept across the Pacific on a tide of conquest that carried them to the north coast of New Guinea. What they found there was Australia's New Guinea Force- a comparative handful of raw troops, mainly boys in their teens, unskilled in jungle warfare. The A.I.F. reinforcements came in but were handicapped from the start of the battle by a supply debacle. Outnumbered four or five to one, they stood alone on the Kokoda Trail, between the Japanese and their objective- Port Moresby.
