French Fighters Of World War Two (1971) By John F. Brindley

“Famous French Fighters of World War Two” by John F. Brindley provides a strong account of the five major French fighters of the Second World War. The book begins with a forward before moving on to an introduction that covers such topics as the French aircraft industry in the pre-war period, the French Air Force (Armee de l’Air), Air Force units, the Aeronavale (French Naval Air Force), aircraft strength in September 1939, the French ‘aces’, the Armistice Air Force, and camouflage and markings. It then goes on to cover in detail the following fighters: (1) Bloch MB 151 – 155, (2) Dewoitine D 520, (3) Morane-Saulnier MS 406, (4) Curtiss Hawk 75, and (5) Potez 630 – 631. For each aircraft the technical development is discussed, as well as a brief operational history. Technical specifications are provided for each plane, as well as three-view color plan views and several color plates. Finally, the book is well illustrated with photographs. In short this is a very useful source of info on the main Armee de l’Air fighters of World War II.
