Frank 'Chota' Carey (2006) By Norman Franks

 

Frank Carey's name is well known in aviation historians.

Fought in France in May 1940, shot down 12+ German aircraft and won DFC and Bar


Fought in the Battle of Britain. Score 18 by Mid-August 1940. Wounded.

 

In 1941, as a Squadron Leader, he went to Burma to fight the Japanese. Shot down more aircraft. Second Bar to DFC.


Instructed in India. Received AFC. Ended the war as Group Captain. Received the US Silver Star, Distinguished post-war career.


He was the second-highest scoring Hurricane fighter pilot, the only aircraft he flew in combat.

Of the top 12 British Aces of WWII, his is the only story not to have been produced as a book.

Norman Franks was given full access to private papers, log books and archives. A riveting study by a renowned historian.
